Our Pugs

A PASSION FOR THE PUG...

1. The story of Ambrogio, a.k.a Giogio

I met this race towards the end of the nineties, a friend from Livorno had bought a female pug from a milanese breeding and showed her to me with a certain satisfaction. What to say... having never seen a dog of that race before then I was actually perplexed and I remember asking her: “But how can she breathe, she has no nose!”
My livornese friend’s pup eventually became a regular guest of mine and a certain friendly relationship established itself between us; she loved milk cookies and I had a soft plush sitting beside my on the sofa. That’s how the decision of buying a pug myself became my next step.
I searched for long, I had a certain idea of dog in my mind and I wanted that which matched it most. At the end of 2001 I visited a breeding outside of Arezzo, where I was told were some nice dogs. The woman there kindly showed me the pups: they were all black... One of them began walking circles around me and then clawed itself tight at my pants to never let go again. It was love at first sight, it chose me!
I brought home my small black and furry package not without worries; I kept asking myself “Will I be able to raise him? Will he eat what I prepare for him? Will he ruin my house?” I have to admit Giogio wasn’t very attractive while he was young, he had two huge eyes looking out of a wrinkled head that sat upon a stout and small body. When my parents saw him at home they asked me if I bought a... fly!

Nevertheless, the ugly duckling became a wonderful swan, agile, thin and sweet, with the passing of the months!

He was so beautiful that I started to bring him to contests and after a series of “he’s still young, his time will come...” he attained the rank of First Excellent, Best of its Race at a National Expo. At the age of 2 he was a wonderful, lively pug.

2. The story of Camilla, a.k.a Lilla

Giogio’s livelyness was soothed when he married Camilla

The second pug I bought from a breeding near Mantova. Camilla was a docile and cute pup, with nice wrinkles on her forehead and a contrasting snout. At the second mating season there was nothing I could do, and in march 2003... she gave birth to 5 puppies.

Gaddo, Gilda, Giada, Giotto e Giuliano.
Camilla doesn’t like canine contests, she is timid and prefers to stay at home, lying on the sofa and watching TV. In summer she likes to stay under a shadow in the garden, in winter she doesn’t move from the living room. She’s maybe a bit lazy but she’s so sweet and cute she’s forgiven everything.

And this is princess Leyla...
